Jay C. Wittwer began serving as the Fire Chief of Central Valley Fire District in June of 2024, bringing decades of dedicated experience in fire service, emergency management, and community safety. Chief Wittwer’s career began in the North Las Vegas Fire Department as a firefighter where he spent 29 years advancing through the ranks, including serving 10 years as Battalion Chief. In 2016 he accepted the position of Fire Chief of the Tukwila Fire Department in Washington State. Since leaving Washington a year ago, he and his wife, Wendy have resided in Parowan, Utah, where he served as a volunteer Fire Captain with the Parowan Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Chief Wittwer holds a bachelor's degree in fire science, and a master’s degree in public administration, both from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, as well as a graduate of the International Association of Fire Chief’s Fire Service Executive Development Institute. Chief Wittwer has been active in multiple programs and on committees in the communities that he has resided in.

Since his arrival, Chief Wittwer has met with members, agency partners and residents of the District to identify the needs of the organization and community. He is working with staff and community partners to move the organization forward in order to ensure that the Central Valley Fire District is prepared to continue to serve our growing community with excellence.

Area of Responsibility

As the fire chief and chief executive officer of Central Valley Fire District, the Fire Chief oversees a progressive "combination" agency of 43 career firefighters and support staff, and 28 volunteer firefighters, who provide fire, emergency medical, and specialty rescue services to approximately 36,000 citizens in a 200-square-mile service area.
